men, women , and children in shakespeares society

in the time of shakespeare, women were expexted and raised to be humble, docile characters. they were not to speak unless spoken to and were always to respect the men in society.women were also expected to be married at a young age and have children as soon as possible. they were also expected to be "pure" before their marriage. after getting married they were responsible for the rasing of the children and taking care of the household.
men on the oter hand were the "bread winners". they were allowed to have premarital sex without being degraded or publicly shamed. the men did not really have to take part in the household activites. they could speak as they liked in public and did not have to be humble and respectful.

illegitimate children were treated as outcast in shakespears time. they were seen as a shame (mostly a shame on their mothers part). they were not allowed to hold high positions in society for example in much ado about nothing, don john is not allowed to be called a prince as his brother is because he is the product of unlawful sex.

the character in the book who goes against the norms of shakespears society is mainly beatrice;
she is not as humble as hero, she speakes her mind and she is not as respectful as she should be.
beatrice also does not wish to be married as societ says she must be.
